On June 8th 2020 the Delta Plan ‘Wild Amsterdam’ for Recovery or Urban Biodiversity was presented officially. In the role of research director at nextcity.nl Mathias was one of the initiators of this Plan together with Nature Optimist, Partizan Publik, De Groene Stad and Artis.  Read more here.

In June 2020 the Nijmegen Architecture Centre published the audiotour ‘seeing the city through the eyes of the animal’ featuring Mathias Lehner as specialist for nature-inclusive design, program director Green Metropolis Harry Boeschoten of Staatsbosbeheer and city ecologist Jochem Kühnen. On May 28th Mathias spoke about unique expertise of Dutch Architects when it comes to Sustainable Cities and introduced the program BNA International. The online mission was organized by Future Cities and RVO. Watch the online video here.

In May 2020 Mathias spoke at the conference on Exporting Architecture in Paris, organized by EFAX, the international department of the French Architects’ Order.

Together with Frank Holldack Mathias designed TREE/STICKS, a piece of urban furniture, in May 2020. It addresses social isolation in the city and reconnecting with nature and each other in a Covid-19 proof way. See more info at legu.nl.

In May 2020 Mathias concluded the design study for a Viewing Platform on top of the MainPoort in Vijfhuizen for Recreatieschap Spaarnwoude. Working together with Haarlemmermeer Municipality and ID&T the 40m platform offers visitors views until the North Sea and a dancing venue for up to 300 people during Mystery Land.
